The highlight of the day was Sean Street cleaning 106kg weighing about 67kg. He locked the jerk but was a little off balance and couldnt reel it in. He still has some time left as a schoolage lifter so he COULD still get into the top 3 nationally. He is still chasing a spot on the WFW leader board, personally I think he will win a medal at nationals about the time get gets into our top 3. Taylor Huskisson holds the number 3 spot Read the rest of this entry »

I am writing this Saturday afternoon, Dec 16th on what has to be one of the nicest days I have seen in a LONG time. Summers here in Texas are miserable, but man November and December are SO much nicer than anywhere else I have lived!

Anyway, last night Dylan Hillard had the training hall to himself but made good use of it. He snatched a personal record 58 and squatted 100kg for 5. Tried a 78kg clean and jerk but missed it. Read the rest of this entry »

12/15/05 training

December 15, 2006 by wichitafallsweightlifting

Had an early noon session for Sammi, Caleb and Rose. Caleb went light with 100 powersnatch and 130 power clean/power jerk in light of his hopefully big day tomorrow. Evidently training early agreed with Sammi and Rose, because Rose made a 65 personal record snatch, and Sammi squatted 100 for a 5kg PR.

Decent day.  Caleb Ward snatched 117 X 2, then clean and jerked 140 X 2, then back squatted 182 X 5.  All personal records.

Donny Shankle snatched 155 X 2, then clean and jerked 185 X 2, both lifts personal records.

American Open

Justin “Moppy” Brimhall, one of my favorite people of all time, lifted well at 77k. Conservative in the snatch with 3 successes at 115, 120, and 123. I made the call for 123 on the last attempt and kicked myself in the rear after watching him do it. He was capable of 125 or more. Clean and jerks opened with 152 for an easy lift, then 158 for a miss. He miss-timed the catch on the clean and had to double bounce it. Anyone familiar with Justin will know that he CANNOT hold that bar on the chest for too long or he gets dizzy. Thats just what happened, missed jerk because he was blacking out. Kansas State Championships

September 26, 2006 by wichitafallsweightlifting

I waited too long to give a detailed lift by lift commentary of Kansas State…  but a few of the things which stood out to me are as follows:

Rose went 6 for 6 with big PR’s.  She looked better on the platform than I have ever seen her.  Trey is back, and started his comeback with a really nice 135kg snatch.  Our two first meet lifters both really looked good.  James Zotz and Scotty Beauchamp both lifted extremely well in their first meet.  Neiman continues to look SO MUCH better than an 8 year old should.

Overall the team did well.  I think that out of 15 lifters who went to the meet, 14 of them set new personal records, and the one who didnt is right in the middle of football season and had a good excuse.  Over half our lifters went 6 for 6, and not with little conservative weights, but 6 for 6 while beating old PR’s.

I couldn’t be happier.

Training lately

Its been a wild couple of days. Caleb powerjerked 160kg, huge PR. Also a 155 clean, 115 powersnatch, 115 snatch for a double… the list seems to go on and on. Rose snatched 61 and it was a pretty lift. Many, many squat PR’s. Neiman snatched 27kg, not bad for an 8 year old girl! William clean and jerked 15kg, not bad for a 5 year old boy! Rose cleaned 82 two times Monday… locked the jerk both times but couldnt hold them. She also squatted 100kg for 5 sets of 5… pretty good squat for a tall skinny girl!

On the morning of July 12th, Sammi Nichols and I hopped on a plane headed to Colorado Springs, Colorado for a memorable experience at the Olympic Training Center. As always, both of us highly anticipated the training camp awaiting us.

Training this week

July 21, 2006 by wichitafallsweightlifting

It is friday evening as I write this, only two more practices to go this week.  Many of the kids are getting ready for the Junior Olympics held Aug 1st thru 4th.  Everyone is looking very good in the gym.  Nieman clean and jerked 32kg and followed it with a 23kg snatch, Kyle Lauck just succeeded with a 60kg clean and jerk, and Blaine Townsend just cleaned 90kg.  Overall its been a great week.  With 2 more practices to go, I expect a few more big lifts to report by this time tomorrow.
